Chapter 15

The ring is perfect. I hope Sookie loves it. We’ve been together for a year and a half now and I’m sure she’s the one. I’ve been thinking about this for a while and we’ve had the marriage talk. It’s what we both want and I can’t picture being married to anyone but her.

So now I need to talk to Aude. Like it or not, I have to keep her in the loop. So when I bring Jake back to her place, I decide I’m going to tell her about my decision. She moved into her own place six months ago and Jake is in daycare full-time now since both of us are working, but he loves it. He has tons of little friends his age and the socialization has been good for him.

When we get to Aude’s apartment, Jake rings the buzzer so she’ll let us up. They’re on the second floor of the building and a moment later the buzzer goes off. I push the door open and Jake takes off up the stairs. I follow him up and Aude is waiting for us at the door.

She broke up with that Andre guy more than a year ago and lately she’s been seeing a construction worker named Alcide. Jake likes him and he seems like an okay guy, so I can’t complain.

“Hi, Mom,” Jake says. He hugs her around her waist. He’s grown a ton in the last year.

“Hi, handsome,” she smiles down at him. She then looks up at me and says, “Hey, Eric.”

“Hey. Do you have a minute to talk?” I ask her.

“Sure,” she answers nervously. “Is everything okay?”

“Yeah, yeah, it’s good. There’s just something you should be aware of,” I tell her. “Jake, why don’t you go play so I can talk to Mom?”

“Okay,” he says. I’ve already asked him how he feels about me marrying Sookie. He loves her and he loves Jo. He’s okay with it.

Aude steps back to let me in the apartment and she closes the door behind me. She and Sookie get along well enough. I don’t expect them to be best friends, but I’m glad they get along. It makes life easier for all of us.

“Do you need to sit down? Is everything okay with Sookie? Do you need a drink?” she fires at me.

“Breathe, Aude,” I chuckle. “I’m fine. Sookie’s fine. In fact,” I reach into my pocket and pull out the box with her ring in it. I open the box and ask, “Think she’ll like that?”

It’s a princess cut diamond on a white gold band. There are two smaller stones on either side. One is Jake’s birthstone and the other is Jo’s.

Aude gasps and covers her mouth. When she can she says, “That’s beautiful, Eric, I think she would be crazy not to love it.”

I smile and say, “I’ll be sure to let you know what she says. She loves Jake, and he loves her and Joey… I just wanted to let you know it’s happening.”

“Thank you for letting me know. Jake would’ve spilled the beans eventually,” she smiles. “This gives me hope for me and Alcide.”

“I’m glad you’re okay with it. I’m not sure her ex will take it as well.” Aude knows a bit about the shit with Sam. Sookie ended up taking him to court after the New Year to change their custody agreement so he couldn’t just keep dropping in when it was convenient for him. As it is now, Sam hasn’t come around to see Jo since her birthday in August and even then he was three weeks late.

“No offense, Eric, but if you were a deadbeat like that man I would never let you see Jake.”

“Oh I know,” I nod. “And you would be right to keep him away from me.”

“She’s too kind for her own good. I’m glad you’re doing this, I don’t know her that well, but she treats my boy like her own and I’ve seen you smile more in the last year and a half than I have since before Jake was born. In all honesty I am a little bit jealous of what you two share,” she says, giving me a kind smile.

“You’ll find the right guy, Aude. You know it was just luck that brought me to her. You have Sookie to thank for that patchouli candle,” I chuckle.

“That’s the only thing you did that ever really made me want to punch you,” she laughs. “I shoved it in Andre’s bag when he left.”

I throw my head back to laugh at that.

“I asked her which candle had the most aggressive smell. It was either patchouli or the bacon candle that smelled like dog treats,” I recall.

“At least you picked the lesser of two evils,” she snorts. “That’s why you got him with a dirty diaper on father’s day.”

I smirk and say, “Sookie changed him for me.”

“You’ve never been good at baby poop.”

“Aude, no one is good at baby poop,” I argue. “But he’s out of diapers now and there was only one accident this weekend, so it’s getting better.”

Jake’s had more trouble potty training, but everyone says it takes boys longer to master it. He’s doing well, though.

“Good to know. Have you thought about having anymore, or are Jake and Joey enough?”

“We’ve talked about it,” I confess. “We’d like to have more. Maybe in another year or two.”

“That’s good. She’s a lucky woman,” Aude compliments and we hear a big crash and an ‘oopsie’ come from Jake’s room. “That’s probably my cue to get him out of there.”

“Yeah. I’ll keep in touch,” I tell her and step back to let myself out of the apartment.

“I’ll see ya,” she calls as she heads down the hallway.

“Later tater!” I call out to Jake.

“Bye, Dad!” he shouts back and then I go.

Sookie’s not a fancy girl. I love that about her. Little things make her happy. Jo is very similar. So while Sookie’s out grocery shopping, I stay back at her place with Jo.

“Hey, kiddo, can we talk?” I ask Jo while she’s playing with her Barbie dolls in her bedroom.

“Yeah,” she says looking up at me. She holds out one of her Barbie’s to me, inviting me to play with her.

I take the doll from her and ask, “So do you mind that I stay at your house a lot?”

“No, I like having you here. I don’t even mind when you bring Jake,” she giggles.

They’re partners in crime when they want something. They’ve gotten way too good at tag teaming us.

“What if I lived here all the time?”

Her face lights up and she says, “Really? You can stay all the time?” I have her attention now.

“Well if you and your mom want me to,” I say.

“I want you to! Can we call Mom and ask her?”

“How about we ask when she gets home? I have a special present for her,” I explain. “I want to ask your mom to marry me.”

“You do? Does that mean you’ll be my new Dad?” she asks.

Sookie and I have discussed it and the truth is that I’ve been doing the job for more than a year now. Sam’s a complete fucktard for the way he’s treated his daughter.

“Yeah, kiddo, it does. Are you okay with that?” I ask.

She nods enthusiastically and climbs up into my lap to hug me.

“You’re my favorite Dad,” she tells me.

I get a little choked up and say, “Well you’re my favorite daughter.”

“Can I have a snack?” Okay, that moment is over.

“Sure. Chocolate pudding okay?” I feel like spoiling her.

She gives me a look that screams ‘duh’ and then gets up to run to the kitchen. I follow behind her and get a pudding pack down from the high shelf in the pantry. It’s sugar-free, but Sookie’s careful about how many sweets Joey gets.

Jo is still working on her pudding when the garage door goes up and I still have the ring in my pocket. No doubt Jo will propose to her for me, but I’m okay with that.

“Uh oh, looks like someone got swindled,” Sookie laughs when she walks in with five bags hanging off her arms.

“Eric said he wants to be my new Dad and he gave me pudding,” Jo says way too loudly.

Sookie looks over at me with confusion written all over her face.

“We’re celebrating,” I clarify. I reach into my pocket for the black box and offer it to Sookie. “She gets pudding and you get this.”

She takes the box with a shaky hand and Joey tells her, “He said he wants to move in too. I said it was okay.”

“Eric…” she opens the box and gives me the same reaction Aude did, gasp with her hand over her mouth.

“Will you marry me?” I ask simply.

She starts blinking quickly and her head starts bobbing up and down.

“Yes,” she breathes.

I grin from ear to ear.

“Say that again, Toots,” I say.

“Yes, Eric, a hundred times yes,” she smiles with tears pouring down her face.

I pull her face to mine to kiss her and I hear Jo giggling at the table. When the kiss breaks I press my forehead to hers and say, “I love you, Sookie.”

“I love you, too,” she sniffles and shakily pulls the ring from the box.

I take the box from her and slip the ring on her finger. I kiss her hand and say, “You’re stuck with me now.”

“There’s no one else I’d rather be stuck with,” she promises.

“Good.” I kiss her again until Jo squirms her way between us.

She’s become a pro at climbing up my body so she starts her way up until she has her arms securely around my neck and her legs around my waist.

“I love you too, Eric,” she says as she hugs me.

I chuckle and kiss her head. “I love you too, kiddo.”

“Mom, can I call him Daddy now?” she asks Sookie.

“I thought you two talked about that already,” she points out.

“Oh… yeah,” she grins.

“It’s okay with me, Jo,” I tell her. She’s been wanting it since that one talk we had but she’s restrained herself. “And you know this means you’re a big sister now.”

“I already know that, silly,” she tells me.

“Oh you do, huh?” I tickle her ribs.

“I do,” she squeals and reaches out for Sookie.

“This is between you two,” Sookie says and takes a step back.

“Are you sure you don’t want in on this?” I flip Joey upside down and keep tickling her.

“Hmm, now that you mention it…” Sookie comes up and attacks the insides of Joey’s thighs, sending her into an uncontrollable giggle fit.

“It’s about time she gets a taste of her own medicine,” I laugh.

“Daddy!” she squeals. “Noooo!”

“You asked for him, baby, you got him,” Sookie points out.

We give up a minute later since her face is bright red. I get Jo upright and she glares at me for a second before she hugs me again. This is what she should have had all along.

She rests her head on my shoulder, breathing heavily.

“You gettin’ tired, little girl?” Sookie asks her as I rub her back.

“No,” she says and then yawns.

I think I hear Sookie say something about naptime, but I’m not sure.

“I’m going to finish putting the groceries away. You two go play.”

“Wanna watch a movie with me?” I offer Joey. “I’ve been wanting to watch The Goonies.”

“Yeah,” she nods as she clings to me.

“Okay, then we’ll watch a movie. Do you want to grab your pillow first?” I’m betting she’ll be asleep before the truffle shuffle.

She nods and I put her down so she can run to her room to get her pillow. She meets me in the living room with her pillow and a throw blanket.

“Okay. Get comfy,” I tell her and put the DVD in the player.

Being the snuggler she is, she waits for me to stretch out and then she lies down in front of me like Sookie would. The movie starts and I end up dozing off with her. It’s my fiancé climbing on top of me that wakes me up.

“Oops,” I whisper. “Is she asleep?”

“Yep, sleeping peacefully in her room,” she says and dips down to kiss my neck.

“Do you want to celebrate, Mrs. Northman?” I ask.

“Yep,” Sookie nods and kisses the other side of my neck.

“I think we better get behind a locked door then,” I tell her.

“That’s why I was waking you up,” she purrs and kisses my lips.

I wrap my arms around her and we lay there on the couch, making out and pawing at each other until Sookie decides it’s time to move on to the bedroom. We both get up and she makes sure the door is locked in case Jo wakes up.

“We probably don’t have a lot of time,” she says as she starts stripping her clothes off.

“I figured,” I say as I strip out of my clothes too.

As soon as we’re naked she’s pulling me back to the bed. I open the drawer to get a condom while Sookie climbs onto the bed.

“I cannot wait to stop using those things,” she tells me. She’s on her knees, sitting back on her heels.

“Believe me, I understand,” I agree and Sookie takes the condom to get it on me.

She tilts her head up to kiss me while she strokes my cock to make sure I’m nice and hard. Never an issue with this girl. I feel her hands shift and the rubber roll into place.

“How do you want me, future husband?” she asks against my lips.

The position that will get her off the fastest is her hands and knees, so that’s what I suggest. Sookie smiles and turns around to get into position. I can see how wet she is and still I rub the tip of my cock up and down her slit a few times before I slide into her to the hilt. I grab her hands and hold them at the small of her back as I begin to thrust.

Sookie still has problems with her hip from time to time thanks to the accident, but this turns her on just fine.

“Ahhh,” she cries out before dipping her head to bury her face in the mattress. She starts to rock back to meet my thrusts, moaning as loud as she can without allowing the sounds to leave the room.

“Harder,” she moans as she turns her face to breathe.

I thrust harder, making her bite back another moan, and I reach around with my free hand to rub her clit. A strangled noise leaves her and Sookie buries her face in the mattress again when her walls start to flutter.

“More, Eric, I’m so close,” she breathes. She tugs to get her hands free, but I don’t let her go.

Instead I give her a little slap on the ass and say, “No, no, Sookie.”

She whimpers and I hold her hands a little tighter.

“Please, baby,” she begs. Her pussy begins to grip my shaft tighter and tighter. “Make me… fuuuuck!” She cums a little too loudly.

I let go of her hands and pull her upright by her throat. I keep my hand there and as I’m still pounding into her I get close to her ear and say, “You have to be quiet, baby.”

My hand snakes around and I rub her clit to keep her cumming. Her body is shaking and she’s gasping for air.

She’s still whimpering when an aftershock shoots through her body that threatens to rip my own release from me. Her eyes are shut tights and she thrusts her tits out so I get a perfect view of her tight nipples.

She lets out a muffled, “More,” as I continue to pound into her.

I nip at her neck and move closer to her ear again. “You feel so good when you cum, Sookie. I am a lucky man for getting to spend the rest of my life with you, baby.”

Tears start to stream down her face and her eyes are shut tight. I feel her pussy begin to squeeze, readying for another orgasm.

I turn her face and kiss her sweetly, in contrast to how hard I’m fucking her. She moans into the kiss and when I pinch her clit, it sends her over the edge and takes me with her.

We continue to kiss as our bodies shake and rock in unison.

“I love you so much,” she whispers into my mouth as soon as she can talk.

“I love you too, Toots.” I kiss the tip of her nose and then pull out of her to get rid of the condom.

When I get back to the bed, Sookie’s lying on her side with a cheesy smile on her face. I lie down beside her and pull her close for a kiss.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been as happy as I am right now,” I tell her.

“Neither have I,” she smiles. “I can’t wait to be Mrs. Eric Northman, cradle robber extraordinaire.”

“Yeah I thought I’d better propose before people start thinking I’m marrying my mom,” I tease.

“Hey now, little boy,” she giggles. “You look older than me.”

“Do not,” I gasp.

“In my old eyes you do, but then I probably need glasses. I’m a whole quarter century.”

“This close to being a spinster,” I chuckle.

“Jo was already working on her cat extraction techniques,” she grins.

“Smart girl.”

“She is, she loves you, doesn’t she?”

“She seems to.”

“She does. She would trade in Sam for you any day of the week,” Sookie admits.

“I’ve gotten that impression. How do you think he’ll react to this?” I ask and wrap my arms around her.

“Truthfully, I don’t really care. But he’ll either flip his shit and start a huge fight or he’ll disappear altogether. He hasn’t even called to see how Joey is in over a month.”

“For you and me it would be best if he just disappeared. For Jo it would be best if he manned up and actually started being her dad,” I reply.

“I don’t see that happening ever,” she sighs. “It breaks my heart for her, and now she’s old enough to see what kind of dick he is. You know she asked me once why I had to pick Sam as her real dad? She was so mad at him for flaking on her again.”

“That’s rough. She’ll understand someday that it’s not your fault that Sam is a dick and a deadbeat,” I assure her.

“I know. I just wish he would shit or get off the pot already instead of stringing her along.”

“You know…” I have an idea but I don’t know if it’s too much for one day so I’m hesitant to bring it up. “Never mind.”

“What?” she asks curiously, turning to look at me.

“It’s just something for you and Jo to consider, but I could adopt her,” I tell her.

She moves back so she can turn to look at me.

“Are you kidding me?” she asks seriously.

Shit. Too much.

“It was just an idea. You don’t have to–”

“Eric, hush. If Sam will give up his rights I would allow you to adopt her in a heartbeat. You’ve been a better father than that piece of shit has ever been. She loves you, I love you, we’re already a family, baby. I… I would love that…” When she finishes she has unshed tears brimming her eyes.

“Well it’s something we can talk to Jo about,” I say and kiss her forehead. “I know you’re a package deal, and Jo deserves better.”

“I don’t know what we did to deserve you,” she whispers and leans in to kiss my lips softly.

“You helped me with candles,” I smile at her.

“Thank heavens for that,” she giggles.

I kiss her again and she’s just climbing on top of me when we hear the doorknob jiggling.

“Mommy?” Jo calls from the other side of the door.

“One second, baby,” she calls back and then kisses me hard before getting up.

“We’ll continue this later,” I say as I sit up.

I see Sookie’s ring sparkle in the sunlight and I really can’t remember ever being happier than I am right now.

  1. Awww. I’m all squidgy. That was so cute and wonderful and beautiful and… just Perfect!
I love how much Jo loves Eric. I’m really glad that at least one ex is being an adult.
    Thanks for a great chapter!

  2. What a wonderful chapter! Joey deserves so much better than Sam. I love that Eric knows that Sookie and Jo are a package deal and that he wants to adopt her. So sweet!!

  3. What a great proposal, including Jo was so sweet. He was very respectful to tell Aude about it too. Hope Sam flakes off and Eric can adopt Jo, but I know Sam’s dad loves Jo and hope they can still visit.
