Chapter 4

“What song have you chosen?”

Eric had a silly grin on his face and said, “It was a tough choice, but I have decided to go with ‘Wannabe’ by the Spice Girls.”

Was he serious? I wasn’t quite sure how to feel about that one. I wasn’t a fan of the song to begin with, but I may have been after his performance. Godric took Eric’s seat next to me and we turned to face the stage.

“He was Baby Spice for Halloween freshman year of college. Us pledges didn’t have a choice,” Godric informed me.

“I am so sad I missed that,” I said seriously. “Please tell me you have a picture of it.”

“I have video,” he smirked.

“You just might be my new best friend,” I laughed. The guy that talked to me after my performance, Ben, looked back at me with a small smile. I was pretty sure he was serious about his appreciation of me. He even gave me his number and made me promise to call him. And he wasn’t drunk.

“You’re never going to see the video,” Godric told me. “I was Posh.”

“I bet you guys were so cute, though,” I chuckled as the music started to play.

“It would have been better if Eggs shaved before getting in his Scary Spice costume.”

“I’m sure it would have, but I’ll never know if you don’t show it to me.”

“Bro Code prevents it.”

“Damn,” I said, snapping my fingers.

The music started and Eric wasted no time getting into character, being all sassy as he danced around the stage. He even did choreography from the video during the chorus.

“I think we know why Aude really left him,” Godric said over the hooting and hollering crowd. They were eating it up.

“That’s a pretty safe bet,” I laughed. As cute as Eric was I knew I didn’t have a shot. He was more into girls that looked more like the Jessica girl that came on right after we showed up. Friends was going to be it for us and I knew that. Which meant I was going to get back on the wagon and try to talk to Ben again before the night was over. For the time being I was enjoying my friend’s performance. Eric did have way too much sass in his hip swaying. I wasn’t convinced about the gay porn thing.

“It didn’t help that she was a raving twat,” Godric added. “I’m pretty sure she was with him for the money.”

“I assume that’s the one that broke up with him with a CD?” I asked to clarify.

“Yep,” he nodded. A waitress came by and he ordered us another round.

“Yeah, that’s a dick move,” I replied. “He deserves better than someone that would do that to him anyway.” He was a good guy on top of being a fuckin’ Adonis.

“Yeah, he does. He won’t admit it but she took advantage of him when he was all messed up after his mom died,” Godric told me.

“That’s too bad. Maybe he didn’t see it that way,” I suggested. “He’s a big goofball, you know? Maybe he being clouded with all the hurt he missed that completely.”

“It’s a safe bet.”

Eric pulled a few girls up on stage to dance with him, which only made the crowd cheer louder. He wasn’t fazed by the attention at all. Not that I was surprised. If he was a basketball player he was used to it. Of course my fangirl heart did take note that I wasn’t invited on the stage, but that was okay. I knew it wasn’t happening.

Instead I sat there with a smile on my face, watching the girls paw all over him. He seemed to be eating it up. All the more reason I wanted to talk to Ben a little more. I wasn’t sure if I’d have the balls to call him the next day when I was completely sober.

“You think he misses all the attention basketball got him?” I asked Godric without taking my eyes off the stage.

“Sometimes. I know he loved playing but his mom was more important to him.”

“As it should be.” I peeled my eyes off of him to look toward Godric. Ben caught my eye as I turned my head. I gave him another small smile, but the shots were delivered so I focused on those instead. I was in a weird spot. I wasn’t used to not having any confidence. I needed to figure out how to get it back.

“He talks about trying to get back into it sometimes but he needs a push.” Godric handed me one of the shots and took one for himself.

“I don’t think I know him well enough yet to try to push him,” I shrugged. I shot my drink back and set the glass on the table. It wasn’t going to be hard to talk me into another song at the rate I was going.

“I’m not saying you should.” Godric took his shot as the song came to an end… with Eric moving his hips in a circle and then wiggling his ass.

He had a really nice ass

The crowd erupted in cheers as he made his way back to the table. I bet if he checked his pockets for numbers they’d be stuffed with them.

“Great job, Baby Spice,” I grinned. I needed another beer.

He dusted imaginary lint off his shoulder and took his shot. “Thank you.”

“Did you make sure to put in Godric’s name on your way back?” If we had to, so did he.

“No one wants to see his pasty ass,” Eric replied.

“I beg to differ.” Godric got up and went to add himself to the list.

“I like him,” I told Eric once he walked away. “I also like that I’m not straining my neck muscles looking up at him.”

“Again, you voluntarily agreed to go to Vegas with me so I don’t feel sorry for you.”

“I’ll have to dust off my heels for Vegas,” I chuckled. “Then I can be at least a little closer to you so I don’t have to yell to talk to you.”

“Drama queen.” Eric took a drink of his beer and sat back in his seat.

“Cool your balls,” I said. “I’m going to go get another beer. Do you want anything while I’m at the bar?”

“Nah, I’m good, thanks.”

I got up from the table and worked my way through the room toward the bar. When I got there I had to wait a moment before my order was taken, but while I was waiting I was surprised to see my admirer make his way over to me. I couldn’t remember the last time a guy was so interested in me.

“Hi,” I smiled when he approached. He didn’t give me the creepy vibe, which was a good thing.

“You know, you’re not making it easy for me to ask you out with the security team at your table,” he said.

“They’re harmless,” I laughed. He had the most adorable dimples when he smiled at me. “If anything they’re trying to embarrass me to death.” At least I knew Eric would. Godric didn’t know me well enough yet.

“How? That doesn’t seem very nice.” When the bartender came with my beer, Ben paid for it.

“Thanks,” I smiled at him again. “I don’t know how, but they’d find a way, I’m sure.” It didn’t help that I had an epic crush on Eric and my mojo was way off from being out of the game for so long.

“Come sit with me. I won’t embarrass you.”

“I shouldn’t. I would feel bad for leaving them,” I replied. It would’ve been rude, right? Plus Ben had his own friends at his table.

“How about a dance then?”

“I can definitely accommodate that,” I replied, taking a drink of my beer. I hadn’t danced with a partner in a long time. I danced around my apartment alone plenty over the last couple years. Plus, I appreciated the fact that he hadn’t once looked down at my tits. At least not that I noticed.

Ben offered me his hand and when I took it, he let me lead him to the dance floor toward the back of the bar. He didn’t get too close, but he was in my space a little bit. I let it slide. We were at a loud bar. The song that was playing had a good beat and I was pleasantly surprised when Ben kept up with me.

He wasn’t quite as tall as Eric, but he was pushing six feet tall, so I did have to look up at him some as we danced. It was a little weird with my beer in my hand, but we made it work.

“You’re a pretty good dancer,” I said over the music. I had to lean in some to try to reach his ear.

“So are you,” he answered.

I wasn’t really sure what to make of him yet. I was actually kinda surprised he didn’t talk more seeing as he wanted me to sit with him. Unless he was in the same weird, nervous boat I was in. That was entirely possible.

When the song ended I wasn’t sure I wanted to walk away, but I smiled and said, “I’ll let you get back to your friends.” They were probably going to make fun of him for being a chubby chaser anyway. Gran would tell me to stop being so hard on myself.

“Are you sure you don’t want to join us? We could use a pretty face to liven things up.”

“I would feel bad.” I knew my face was beet red. “This is my first night hanging out with my co-workers and it would be rude. I can promise you another dance later, though?”

“Of course. I’ll see you around.” He kissed my hand and walked away.

A boy like him was good for a girl’s ego.

I walked back to the table with my beer. If they saw what I was doing I didn’t notice. Their stupid grins told me I was about to get teased about it, though.

“What?” I asked as I slid back onto my chair. Ben was a nice guy and as the dance went on I resolved to call him the next like I’d promised earlier.

“Nothing,” Eric said.

“Uh huh. Godric, did you pick a song to do?” I took a drink of my beer. They were both still looking at me like I had something on my face or something. I was getting a little self-conscious.

“Big Balls,” Godric answered.

I didn’t know him well enough to be surprised or not surprised by that. It felt like something Eric would have done though. It was weird that the table went quiet when I got back. I wasn’t sure if they were talking without me, but I wasn’t going to let it get to me. It kinda made me think about going to sit with Ben though.

“Did I interrupt something when I came back?” I asked after a few minutes of silence. “I can leave again, if so.”

“No, it’s cool.” Eric took a drink of his beer. Godric’s name was called a minute later.

“Go get ‘em tiger,” I giggled when he practically bounced away and up to the stage. I wasn’t the biggest AC/DC fan, but I was familiar with their music. Jase played them out when we were growing up. I wanted boy bands and he wanted hard rock. Since he was older he usually got to pick the music.

“How long have you guys known each other?” I asked Eric once Godric was up on the stage. I knew they went to college together but I wasn’t sure when, or how old Eric was.

“Since college, so… almost thirteen years.”

“How old are you?” I took a sip of my beer. I probably should’ve slowed down so I could drive home later.

“Geez, old timer. Isn’t it past your bedtime?” I joked. He wasn’t that much older than me.

“I don’t know, lightweight, can you still tell time?” he fired back with a wink.

“How am I a lightweight? You have like 72 inches in extra height on me,” I chuckled. Wanting to slow down so I could drive had nothing to do with being a lightweight and everything to do with not wanting to get into an accident. I’d done my time on bed rest, thank you very much.

“You should see what’s in my pants,” he smirked.

Yep… he went there

“Wait until I get my magnifying glass and tweezers before you go trying to whip anything out,” I requested. It was better than asking him to show me, right?

“You won’t need accessories to see anything,” he said confidently.

“Not even my reading glasses?”

“No, ma’am. You want to see? My truck’s outside–”

“No,” I said almost too quickly. Mostly because I was sure I wouldn’t have wanted to stop with a look. It had been way too long since I’d last gotten laid.

Eric laughed and said, “I was kidding, Sook.”

“I knew that,” I replied with an awkward laugh. I needed another drink. I was going to have to cab it home.

“You should come back to the house with us. We’re going to go hit golf balls at the driving range,” he told me.

“Yes, tonight.”

“I can do that,” I nodded. We hadn’t been to each other’s houses yet. I liked his roommate, though and I was sure the range at night… drunk would be fun. I was definitely getting tipsy, if not already drunk. I was usually a quiet drunk, thankfully. I didn’t need to go blurting out that Eric had a nice ass or something like that.

“Sweet. You’re more fun to look at than Godric.” Eric finished off his beer.

“It’s Betty and Wilma, isn’t it?” I asked, cupping my boobs. Yep. Drunk. Fuck. That hit me fast and without much warning.

“Your nose,” he said.

“What’s wrong with it?” I reached up to make sure there wasn’t anything on it, or worse, that it wasn’t growing like Pinocchio’s. I wasn’t lying about anything so I wasn’t in danger of… seriously, fuck Godric and his damn oatmeal cookie shots.

“Nothing. It crinkles and it’s cute.”

“You’re drunk,” I laughed. That had to be the only reason he found anything on me cute. “I’ll take it though.”

“I’m slightly intoxicated,” he corrected. “We graduated to Fireball while you were getting your groove on with your number one fan. That doesn’t change the fact that you have a cute nose.”

“He’s a nice guy,” I told him. “He didn’t even try to cop a feel. And why didn’t you bring me a shot?” I was trying to not drink anymore. Damn. That went right out the window, didn’t it?

“I didn’t want to intrude. You want a shot? I’ll get you one,” he offered.

“Of course I do, but I think it’s my turn to get a round,” I replied. I hadn’t paid for one drink since I showed up.

“I got it. My nine foot legs need a stretch anyway. You keep Wilma and Betty company.” Eric got up to go to the bar.

I focused my attention on Godric dancing around like a fool on the stage. He had a Mick Jagger strut going on that didn’t really fit, but it was funny nonetheless. He was small guy too. He looked like a dwarf next to Eric. Then again, most people did.

I liked them. I hadn’t had good, trustworthy friends since moving to Arizona. I trusted them. Something told me I was able to count on them if I needed too. That may have been drunk brain talking…

By the time Eric was getting back to the table Godric was done with his performance. I had a feeling he didn’t want to leave the stage. I may have been the fact that the emcee had to fight him for the microphone… that wasn’t even switched on.

“Are you two going to hold me up if this makes me walk sideways?” I asked as Eric set my shot in front of me.

“I’ll carry you out myself,” Eric promised.

“Are you sure you can lift me?” I picked up the shot to sniff it.

“Stand up.”

I did. I threw back my shot with a hiss and then looked up at the giant in front of me. Before I knew it I was over his shoulder like it was no big deal.

“That answer your question?”

“You have a cute butt,” I responded. I pinched it. Fuck. That was all bad.

He retaliated by slapping my ass before he put me down.

“Want another shot?”

“Do you have another in your pocket?”

He looked at me with confusion.

“You’re both cut off. Come on, I’ll drive us home,” Godric said.

“But it was just getting fun,” I pouted. I was having a good time. I also decided I was going to start losing weight in the morning. Eric’s poor back was going to feel like shit for lifting me.

“Yeah but security is staring at Hercules for manhandling you,” Godric pointed out. “Besides, we can walk to the driving range from the house. Or we can go for a swim. A swim sounds good.”

“Fuck yeah, it does,” Eric agreed.

“I don’t have a suit and I don’t want you two eyeing Betty and Wilma,” I told them. Swimming was probably better than juggling balls anyway.

“Leave your bra on,” Eric shrugged.

“Oooh, that’s a good idea,” I grinned. Yep. I was drunk. Real drunk. Fuckin’ Fireball.

“Let’s roll.” Godric grabbed my hand and pulled me to the door with Eric following behind me. I felt his hand on my hip as we walked.

When we got to Eric’s car I tried to get shotgun, but was quickly vetoed by gigantor and his giant squid tentacles. Of course I pouted as I climbed in but as soon as we were on the road I forgot what I was pouting about. My drunk brain was a little goldfishy. A shiny nickel and I forgot what I was thinking. I was sure it would’ve been annoying to sober me. The guys didn’t seem to mind though.

When we got to the house Eric opened my door for me. I’d forgotten that we were going to swim until his shirt went flying across the room. His body was unfairly sexy. I made sure not to comment.

“You have some sweats that’ll fit over my ass later?” I asked. I was wearing boy shorts and bra under my clothes. “Oooh, I love that.” I noticed a tattoo on Eric’s ribs. I immediately moved to gently rub my fingers over it.

“Thanks. My mom used to call me Pumba because I’d eat anything. I had her write the words before she died.”

I frowned as I traced the letters.

“I’m sorry you lost her,” I told him. I lost my parents so young I didn’t have a lot of memories of them. “She had to be awesome to raise someone as cool as you.”

“She was pretty awesome,” he confirmed. Off went the jeans and he realized a minute too late he was going commando.

My hand immediately flew up to cover my eyes.

“I don’t need to see that much of you,” I told him even though I wanted to see every single inch of his body.

“My bad.”

“Just tell me when I can open my eyes again.” I wasn’t peeking. Nope. Although I did learn that even soft I didn’t need a magnifying glass to see his junk.

A few seconds passed before he said, “It’s safe.”

But it wasn’t. Not even a little bit and Eric thought it was hilarious when I threw a pillow at him to cover up with.

“Relax, Sookie,” he said between peals of laughter.

“I’m perfectly relaxed.” I realized I was talking louder than I should’ve been. If he wasn’t going to be wearing trunks I wasn’t going to be okay with that. I was liable to jump him.

He laughed as he walked away, his perfect, muscular ass shifting smoothly with every step he took.

Ugh. Eric was way, way too sexy.
